This past week has been Volunteer Appreciation Week in Nanaimo - a time to recognize the hundreds of citizens who contribute to our community through volunteering time and energy to help others. Along with Mayor Krog and several other Councillors it was my pleasure to attend the annual Volunteer Appreciation Lunch on Thursday. Held in the Beban Park auditorium, the room was filled with tables of volunteers from various community organizations. Draw prizes were given out, and everyone was treated to a lunch served by volunteer students from Wellington Secondary. My thanks to all volunteers. And also to the Volunteer Nanaimo organization which works to assist and coordinate them - led by president Richard Allen and executive director Rita Innamorati. It's an extremely valuable asset to our city, with the motto of "People Helping People". To learn more about the organization, or to get involved, visit www.volunteernanaimo.ca
