The past couple of weeks have brought a pair of major sporting events to our city, along with hundreds of visitors. March 24 marked the final games of JANT - the Junior All-Native basketball tournaments, which featured 91 U13 and U17 boys' and girls' teams from around the province. Then this past Wednesday saw the start of the Canadian Stick Curling Championships at the Nanaimo Curling Centre. It was my pleasure to MC the opening ceremonies, and to meet so many friendly stick curlers enjoying the hospitality of our community. This national event involves 72 teams from across the country competing in Open and Women's divisions. The event continues through this weekend, with games in the championship round going Saturday evening, leading up to finals at 1pm and 3pm on Sunday, April 2. Admission is free for all spectators at the Curling Club on Wall Street. Congratulations to organizers of both events for promoting our city through sports tourism.
