Public Works Yard Update

Since the failed AAP vote last year, there have been questions about the future of the proposed Public Works Yard project. This past Monday, Council was presented with some options by staff and made a decision about moving forward. The option favoured by the majority of Council was to proceed with details design and costing for the project, to be funded from various reserve funds. I supported this option, though initially my preference would have been to simply go to public referendum to borrow the necessary money, as I remain firmly convinced that this a very necessary project for the good of the City. However, the detailed design and costing will provide greater certainty of costs, which hopefully we lead to increased confidence in public support for upgrading the Public Works Yard. Following receipt of this information, next steps will be determined.
