On June 19, 2023, Council took an important next step towards replacing the City's outdated public works yard on Labieux Road which was built in the 1960s. The large capital project had already been identified as a priority, and plans have been drawn up. However, due to the cost scope and cost of the project, the new facility will be done in phases, and borrowing will be required. Total cost is estimated at $48.5 million, with the first phase to involve a new fleet and maintenance facility. To borrow this large amount, public approval is required. This will be done by means of an alternative approval process to approve the borrowing, and citizens who do not support the project will be asked to submit a response form between Sept.27 and Nov.3. Forms will be available from City Hall, along with more details nearer the time.
