This past week, during February 15-17, I was pleased to attend a conference held here in Nanaimo sponsored by the Local Government Leadership Academy. It is an organization that concentrates on creating learning opportunities for local government officials that are aimed at improving the competencies needed to effectively manage and lead B.C. communities. The series of seminars for both newly elected and returning elected officials was well-attended and very worthwhile in my opinion. Among other topics, I enjoyed sessions on Codes of Conduct, Roles and Responsibilities, B.C. Assessment, Municipal Financial Management, Meeting Procedures, Government Law, Asset Management, and Meeting Dynamics and Decision Making.
