I can certainly relate to students and their families with the stresses of returning to school this past week. It always take some time to get settled into routines. As a former educator I appreciate the value of a well-rounded education. But I also know that things begin with teaching the basic skills. Similarly in City government,

I believe that we need to start by focusing on the basics of our mandate - to use taxpayer money to supply the basic services that the public need and expect: clean drinking water, garbage collection, sewer, public safety via police and fire protection, roads and sidewalks, and access to parks and recreation facilities. This is where we need to start with our budget priorities, especially in this time of high inflation. It is not our job to solve the global problems of the world, and we do not have the resources to do so. Let's get Back to Basics and see how we can best address the everyday concerns of our citizens.
